Bill Keller

To re-enlist in the Air Force or try a farming career? Bill, son of W.E.
and Verna Keller, and Juanita, daughter of Eddie and Agnes Lawrence, along
with their five month-old son, Larry, chose to pursue farming. In the summer
of 1952 with the assistance and guidance of parents, friends, relatives, and
neighbors the farming operation was launched on the Lawrence farm, three
miles south of Isabel. Adverse weather conditions resulted in poor crops.
This forced Bill to work away from the farm, not only making farming difficult,
but also making it unhandy to squeeze in coaching little league baseball,
coyote hunting, along with caring for cattle, pigs and chickens.
In 1953 Larry was blessed with a good playmate, Terry. The boys shared
many good times, but their days of joy were short lived as Terry was fatally
injured at the age of two, leaving many hearts filled with sorrow.
When Larry first viewed his new baby sister, Kimberly Ann, a 1956 arrival,
his remark was "it looks like somebody goofed." His hopes for someone large
enough to be a good playmate were shattered. Kim was a delayed Christmas
gift as she arrived December 26th.
Kim and Larry were soon joined by a brother, Richard. His arrival was the
old-fashioned style. Juanita's sister, Eunice Bowersox, who had arrived to
help out with the children, also had the honor of delivering Richard. Dr.
Dale McCarty had planned to do the job. This particular day found him out of
his office nursing a recently removed tooth. Since mother nature doesn't wait,
Richard was safely in his crib and all was well when the Dr. arrived.
During these years, Bill continued to work away and he farmed. Juanita
worked part time R.N. duty at the hospital in Medicine Lodge. Along with school
activites, 4-H, church, ball playing, horseback riding, and helping farm
  everyone kept busy.
Joel Dee made the scene in 1966. The family all enjoyed their new baby. His
kindergarten yar of school was in Isabel, but with its closing Larry was among
the last graduating class in 1970.
In the spring of 1971, Bill received the appointment of Postmast in Isabel.
More changes took place with Larry and Ann (Prothe) and Kim and Jim (Taylor)
being married in 1973, and the sale of the family farm in 1976. Bill, Juanita,
Richard, and Joel moved to Medicine Lodge in September. Richard since has
married, and we are still enjoying scenic Barber County.
