Richard Kenworthy
Richard Lee Kenworthy, eldest son of Margaret and Clifford Kenworthy, was
born near Hardtner, Kansas, October 21, 1927. Richard spent five primary
years attending Hardtner Grade School before moving with his parents to
Coats, Kansas. He graduated from Coats High School in 1945. He spent the
next five years farming and ranching extensively near Coats and in South
Dakota with his father and three brother, Bill, Buck, and Bob Kenworthy.
Richard entered the U.S. military service, November 1, 1950, and retired
from the Air Force, May 1, 1987, with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.
Duty assignments took Richard to Korea, Japan, Thailand, Philippines,
Labrador, and Greenland. Stateside duty assignments included Camp Atterbury,
Indiana, for basic training; Fort Benning, Georgia; Camp Crowder, Missouri;
Lackland and Sheppard AFB, TExas, Schilling AFB, Kansas; HA 15 AF March AFB,
California; SAC Offutt, AFB, Nebraska, Walker AFB, New Mexico; Defense Atomic
Support Agency, Sandia Base, Albuquerque, New Mexico; HQ AF Systems Command,
Andrews AFB, Maryland; Space and Missile Systems Organization, Los Angeles,
California; Houston Space Center, Houston, Texas.
Richard attended the following in residence military schools for Para-
troopers, Forward Observers, Statisticians, Air Force Computer Programmers,
System Analyst, Air Force Supervisors, Non-commissioned Officers Academy,
and Air Force Projectionist. Richard also completed many correspondence
courses to better educate himself toward the ever changing military environ-
ment and requirements.
Richard received the following awards for his military achievements: the
Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal
with two clusters, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Korean Presidential Citation,
U.S. Presidential Citation, United Nations Service Medal, Vietnam Service
Medal, Unit Commendation Medal, Army and Air Force Good Conduct Medals.
Richard also received numberous Letters of Commendation from his Commanders
for excellence in Academic achievements in military schools of instruction
and other military related achievements.
Richard was married to Ollie M. Smith of Wink, Texas, August 21, 1959,
at the Base Chapel Offutt AFB, Nebraska.
Richard is residing in Las Vegas, Nevada, and is currently employed by
the U.S. Postal Service.
