Fred R. Kimsey


     Oma Myrtle Axtell Kimsey was the fifth child of William and Florence 
  Axtell. She was born at Medicine Lodge on June 25, 1892. At an early age
  she joined the Presbyterian Church. She attended school and went to Normal
  Training School, and for three years she was a teacher, having taught at
  Eldred, north of the city, and near Sharon, Kansas.
     On April 2, 1913, she and Fred R. Kimsey were married at the home of
  her parents. Fred was born in Eldorado Springs, Missouri, January 3, 1892,
  the son of John and Melissa Jane (Carter) Kimsey.
     They made their home at Silver Springs (north of Medicine Lodge and in
  the Amber district) until Fred's health forced them to move to Casa Grande,
  Arizona, where they lived thirteen months. To this union were born four
  children, Florence, John, Freda, and Jane. Fred passed away at the age of
  31.
     Oma and her mother, Mrs. Florence Axtell, and her children ran the
  "County Farm," where they took care of patients who were on the county and
  unable to take care of themselves. They were paid $30.00 a month for bed
  patients, and all others at $15.00 a month. Oma Axtell Kimsey passed away
  at the Medicine Lodge Hospital on July 20, 1934.
     Florence Kimsey, oldest child of Fred and Oma Axtell Kimsey, was born
  April 20, 1914. She attended grade and high school at Medicine Lodge and
  Fort Scott Junior College. She was a successful teacher until her marriage
  to Donald E. Albright of Hazelton, Kansas. They lived in the Corwin Community,
  where they were successful farmers. One daughter, Ann Marie, was born; and
  she and her husband, Joe Morrison, and children, Suzanne and Randall, live in
  Aleda, Ill. Donald passed away on Feb. 9, 1974.
     John F. Kimsey, the second child of Fred and Oma Kimsey was born in January
  21, 1916. At the age of six he went to live with his Uncle and aunt. Dan and
  Myrtle Axtell. He attended school at Amber. He was a very successful farmer,
  having won an award for soil conservation. He raised cattle, sheep, and hogs.
  Poor health caused him to quit farming, and he and his sister, Florence, now
  live at Kiowa, Kansas.
     Freda M. Kimsey was the third child of Fred and Oma Kimsey. She got her
  schooling at Medicine Lodge. After high school she worked at the Nashville,
  Kansas, Hospital for Dr. Waylon until her marriage to James E. Mease on July
  11, 1942. They spent all of their married life in Baco County, Colorado. They
  have three children, Jean, Stanley, and Danita. She passed away Dec. 13, 1972,
  after a lengthy illness of cancer.
