Henry Kirkbride

David Henry (Hank) Kirkbride and the former Verdie Irene Groves are the
fourth generation to farm the Tommy Richardson place and live in the home
  Tommy built.
Hank and Verdie had made a neat little apartment on the top floor, as
Hank needed to be available to help with his invalid grandfather. Hank's
mother died of a heart attack two weeks before his first son, David Lynn,
was born on June 14, 1943. David Lynn helped fill a big void left by Grace's
death for Grandpa Tommy and Grandad Dave.
Dorothy Lee was born March 1, 1945, just missing her Dad's birthday by
about two hours. Lynn and Dorothy Lee enjoyed many rides on the wheelchair
handle as Grandpa Richardson was wheeled to bed each evening.
John Henry joined the family January 24, 1951, and enjoyed being the
baby of the family for nine years. Traci Ann arrived April 14, 1960, on
Maundy Thursday, a delightful event for the family.
As the children were growing up, the Methodist Church was the center of
their lives. Henry was a Trustee, took part in plays, and furnished Christmas
trees to decorate the church for many years. Verdie taught Church School
classes, held many offices in the Women's Society of Christian Service, and
sang in the choir. All of the children sang in the choirs and served as
officers in the Methodist Youth Fellowship. Many MYF and Scout campouts were
held on the Kirkbride Farm. Lynn and Dorothy Lee also enjoyed 4-H, winning
  many blue ribbons.
David Lynn attended Kansas University for two years, took an exciting
excursion to Alaska, received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern,
Alva, Oklahoma, and received his Masters Degree from Wichita State University.
He married Patricia Ann (Patty) Shumway and has two children: David Tad and
Patricia Lynn (Tish). He is now teaching English and Journalism at Clearwater,
Kansas, and Patty is a teachers' aide.
Dorothy Lee attended Wichita State University and became a dental assistant
and consultant. She married Roy McMinnville Jr., has two children: Jennifer
  Lyn and John Travis.
John KIrkbride received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Kansas State
University in 1973. While attending KSU, he served as President of Farm House
Fraternity. After graduation, he taught Chemistry and Biology for three years
at Westmorland, Kansas, and for two years at Arkansas City, Kansas. In 1978
he left the teaching profession to become a partner with his father in the
  family farming operation.
Traci Ann Kirkbride is attending the University of California at Los Angeles
and hopes to eventually work in the television industry.
