Nick Larkin

   
        Nick Larkin was born May 10, 1887 to Patrick and Mary Eliza Flohr Larkin,
     in Barber County. His parents came here from Missouri. He grew up in the
     Deerhead Community, attending the Deerhead school. He was the third of five
     children. Mary married Willis Dunn, Edd married Winnie Cooke, Nick married
     Della Helton, Chet married Irene Gibbs and John who married Zoa Meyers. All
     are deceased except Della, Irene and Zoa.
        Della Irene Helton, daughter of Samuel and Mary Jane Cliff Helton, was
     born February 9, 1900, on the old Adams place. Della's father was born near
     Lexington, Kentucky, and came to Kansas when he was nine years old, growing
     to manhood near Sun City. Della's mother came to Barber Conty when she was 
     a child, with her parents, and settled on a farm west of Sun City (now owned
     by the Frank Hoagland heirs). There were three girls and seven boys in the
     family. Mary Jane Helton died at age 83 years.
        Della came from a family of 12 children, five of whom died in infancy. 
     These grew to adulthood; Anderson, who married Lizzie Doud, Laura Pearl who
     married R.G. Scott, Cora Ellen, married Tom Edmonds, Della, who married Nick
     Larkin, Bill who married Rachel Barnes, Fern married Keith Walker and Arthur
     Ernest who never married. Della, Rachel and Keith are still living.
        Della attended school in Dun City. Nick and Dell were married October 28,
     1916 at Pratt, Kansas. They made their home in the Deerhead Community and
     have two sons, Ernest Harold who married Mary Ellen Shepler and lives in
     Sun City, and Don Patrick who married Lavonia Gregory and lives in Wichita.
     Ernest and Mary Ellen's daughter, Mary Beth married Kerri Davis and they 
     have a son, Ernest Glenn. They live in Sun City. Dona nd Lavonia have a
     son Larry who married Dee Ann, and three daugthers; Kelly who married Mark
     Miles, Tracie Lynn and Heather Ann.
        Nick and Della sold their farm to Swaydens and it is now owned by Beulah
     Cline. They moved to Sun City around 1968, where they made their home until
     Nick passed away in 1970. Della still maintains her home in Sun City where
     she enjoys cooking, raising houseplants and visiting with her family and
     friends.
