Dallas Lawrence

The Dallas Lawrence family has lived in Barber County since 1955. Dallas, son of
John and Greeta Lawrence, was born in Nashville, Kansas in 1932. He spent many happy
hours as a little boy visiting his grandfather, Wm. Schiff, who lived seven miles
  southeast of Medicine Lodge.
In 1955, he married Patricia Ann Gerstner, daughter of Royce and Leone Gerstner
of Sharon, Kansas. Patty was born in Medicine Lodge in 1935, and lived here until
1946, when she and her parents moved to the Sharon community.
The first two years of their marriage they lived near Hardner, and worked for Mr.
and Mrs. Bob Cook. On Aprikl 10, 1956, a daughter, Marcia Lea, was born.
In the spring of 1957 the little family moved to Medicine Lodge. The first few
years were busy times. Patty and Dallas ran the swimming pool in the summer and
Dallas worked at a variety of jobs during the winter months. A son, Scott Dallas,
was born June 26, 1958, and on August 1, 1961, another son, Kayle Allan, joined the
  family.
In the fall of 1959, Dallas became a city mail carrier at the Medicine Lodge Post
Office. Through the years Patty continued to acquire college credits and is now a
teacher at Medicine Lodge Intermediate School.
From the very beginning of their marriage, Dallas and Patty had a dream. They
wanted to own their own farm, and in the spring of 1964 they bought their farm. It
was the old Honeyfield, or Tedrow place, three miles east of town. There they raised
their family and all of them devoted many long hours in working and rebuilding it,
  so it became theirs.
Happy, and sad, memories are all a part of the home they built, and how they all
love to recount them when they are all together.
Marcia, after attending college at Emporia State, is now working and living in
Scottsdale, Arizona. Scott is finishing his senior year at Fort Hays University,
majoring in Agri-business. Kayle will be a freshman at Washburn University with
  plans to major in law.
