Mary E. Colborn Lecat
I was born in July, 1918, the youngest daughter of George and Euella Fife
Colborn, at the family farm 7 miles southwest of Medicine Lodge. I received my
education in a one room school, with Mrs. Cora Warren as my teacher all eight
years. My mother died when I was 15 years old. I then worked for several women
in the area. Mrs. Forrest Rodgers, Mrs. Arthur Harbaugh and my sisters when their
babies were born. Then, on Dec. 24, 1936, I married Walter Earl Duggins of Curtis,
Okla. Two boys, Preston and Darrel, were born to our family. We lived in Mooreland,
Okla. and ran a Help-Yourself Laundry for 2 years. In 1942, we moved to Wichita,
Kansas to work for the Boeing Aircraft Co. The boys attended Wichita Schools. Earl
and I were divorced and later I married Payne Rutherford. Then, on Dec. 15, 1953,
a son, Stanley Rutherford was born. He attended school in Wichita until the age of
12. After having the flu, he was diagnosed as having acute leukemia. He was treated
at the Halstead Clinic and was sent on to the University Medical Center in Kansas
City. He continued treatment in Wichita hospitals, until he passed away July 29,
1966. I had bee divorced in 1957, and after being single for 18 years, married Hubert
Lecat in 1975. Hubert is a retired Air Force Sergeant who now works for Boeing Aircraft.
We are still not ready for official retirement.
Preston, my eldest son, worked in Wichita as a Ceiling Applicator. He and his wife
Karen, have two children, Kevin and Kim. They live in Wichita. Darrel, my other son,
owns and operates Duggins Construction Co. He and his wife, Mary Lee, have two boys,
Todd and Stanley. They also live in Wichita. Lee and I enjoy camping and fishing.
