Fritz Lenkner
Johann Frederick (Fritz) Lenkner and George Baier left their homes in
Finsterlohr, Germany and came as young men to Medicine Lodge, Kansas to
the Conrad Baier home in the year of 1914. Fritz made his home with the
Leonard Ott family, twenty miles southwest of Medicine Lodge, working
there for one year. He then rented a farm in that immediate area and was
there for several years. He later moved to the Lake City area and in 1924
made a trip to Cleveland, Ohio to wed Margaret Marie Lang. She had left
her home in Wolfsbuch, Germany in 1923 to come to America to live with
relatives.
In 1925 Fritz and Margaret moved to the old Shore Ranch nine miles
southeast of Coats, Kansas. Early in 1926 a younger brother, Wilhelm Lenkner,
came from Germany to the Lenkner ranch to be employed. Sofie Lang, Margaret's
sister, came from Germany to Kansas in 1930 and the following year she and
Wilhelm were married. They made their home nearby on the Lemon Ranch for
several years.
Fritz and Margaret had four children; Edwin Fred was born i 1927, Lucille
Marie was born in 1929 and Anita Elizabeth was born in 1934. Lee George, who
was born in 1936, died in infancy. The Lenkner children attended the rural
grade schools in the community and graduated from Coats High School. The
family were members of the Lutheran Church in Pratt, Kansas.
Edwin F. married Marian Lee Pipkin of Pratt, in 1948 and they live on the
ranch where Fritz and Margaret moved in 1925. They have a son, Edwin Dale,
born in 1951, and a daughter, Linda Lee, born in 1954.. Edwin D. married
Deana Allphin and they have ranching and farming interests with his parents.
Linda is married to W. James Emrick and they have a 1 1/2 year old son,
Jeremy, and reside in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Lucille married Herbert D. Doubek of Coats, who is a medical doctor at
Belleville, Kansas. They have two daughters and a son. Diane, born in 1957,
married Jim Reed of Scandia and they have a daughter, Heather. They are
living in Belleville. Deborah was born in 1958 and is a junior in college at
Blair, Nebraska. Douglas, a senior at Belleville High School was born in 1960.
Anita married Ray H. Burrows of Hugoton, Kansas, who is a mechanical
engineer with Panhandle Eastern at Liberal, Kansas. They have two sons and a
daughter. The elder son, Glen, is thirteen years old, Bryan is eleven years
old and the daughter, Sandra, is nine years old.
Fritz and Margaret appreciated the opportunitities they had in America and
were justly proud of what they accomplished through their hard work. Their
way of life centered around their family, their church and working together
to produce good livestock and crops.
Fritz passed away in 1970 as the age of 82 years. Margaret, who is 82 years
old, is a resident of Belleview Manor at Belleville, Kansas.
