Louis Lockert
My grandfather was born in Paris, France, November 9, 1843. He was
16 years old when he crossed the Atlantic Ocean and came to Akron,
Ohio. He fought over three years in the Civil War. In 1865 he returned
to Ackron and married Isabel Allyn. To them four boys and one girl was
born - George, Frank, Dave, Byrd and Pearl.
Louis Lockert and family homesteaded on land just west of Sun City
in 1874. The children attended school and grew up there.
My father was George, the eldest, born in 1866. He married Kittie
Cooke on February 14, 1900. They lived in Coats, Kansas until 1916,
then moved to a farm in the panhandle of Oklahoma. In 1923 they returned
to Barber County and bought the Ranchmens Telephone Company. My parents
operated the Telephone Company until my father's death in 1937. My mother
continued to run the business alone until 1955 when she sold out.
I was born February 7, 1915 and attended grade school and high school
in Lake City. I married Cecil Ledford in 1950.
