Everett Lunsford

   
         Everett Franklin Lunsford was born June 21, 1917, to Joel Milton
       (Duck) and Flora (Warren) Lunsford, near 99 Springs. He had two
       brothers, Stanley - of Bazine, Kansas - and Gilbert (deceased), and
       two sisters, Mary (Mrs. Lawrence) Whitfield - of Pratt - and Lucille
       (Mrs. Wayne Staats) of Syracuse, Kansas. His father died in 1963 and
       his mother (94 yrs) resides in Medicine Lodge. Everett attended Amber
       Rural School and Isabel High School. He recalls riding horseback the
       seven miles to and from school when he was in high school.
         Everett remembers when 99 Springs Resort was built. There was a
       golf course and he caddied for several good golfers, such as Mrs.
       Jack Best and Mrs. Harry Dawson. He earned enough money to buy his
       first set of golf clubs. He himself golfed for several years.
         LaVerne Colson was one of twins born to William Edward and Maude
       (Vannaman) Colson on April 17, 1923. She was raised on a farm south
       of Medicine Lodge, near Kiowa, Kansas. There were five brothers;
       Edward, John and Donald who now live in Missouri. Ray lives at Alva,
       Oklahoma, and Lawrence lives in Baldwin, Kansas. LaVerne's three
       sisters are: Irene (Mrs. Bob) Frederick, Medicine Lodge, LaFerne (Mrs.
       Clarence) Anderson - Kiowa - and Mary (Mrs. Tom) Gillum of Salina,
       Kansas. Her mother died in 1973. Her father resides at Kiwoa Manor in
       Kiowa, Kansas. LaVerne attended Mound Center Rural School.
         Everett and LaVerne were married in 1941 and established their home
       in Medicine Lodge, where they still reside. Everett was working on the
       John Willan farm southwest of town. After 15 years, he went to work
       in town for Harry Timmis at Conoco Service Station. He worked there
       10 years.
         In 1963 Everett began working as custodian at Sharon Public Schools.
       He has been there 16 years and has seen a number of children begin
       Kindergarten and complete school to graduation from high school. It
       has been hard work and late hours, but he has many fond memories and
       enjoys most of the students.
         LaVerne has been a homemaker and mother. After their children were
       grown she started baby sitting. She has cared for several children from
       the time they were only a few weeks old until they were in school full
       time. Others she kept for only short intervals. She is also an expert
       seamstress.
         Everett and LaVerne's daughter Bonnie Jean (Mrs. Gordon) Heath was 
       born at Hardtner, Kansas. She attended grade and high school in Medicine
       Lodge and Wichita Business College. She is employed as secretary at
       Attica Public Schools. They have three children; Michael, Cheri and Toni.
         The oldest son, Donald Franklin was born in Medicine Lodge and attended
       grade and graduated from MLHS. He attended Kansas Technical Institute
       in Salina. He is presently Barber County Noxious Weed Director. He and
       his wife, Shelly (warren), have a son, Scott.
         Dennis Wayne was born IN Medicine Lodge and completed the 12 years of
       school, graduating from MLHS. He attended Dodge City Junior College. He
       is employed by Barber County Highway Department.
