Dale McDaniel
Dale McDaniel, son of Elmer and Ruth (Harris) McDaniel, was born August
16, 1926, in their home south of Sharon on the farm owned at that time
by Lloyd Davis and now owned by Jerry LeClair.
His father, Elmer McDaniel, came to Barber County by train from Akinsville
Missouri, with his parents, Robert Lee and Orpha (Paxon) McDaniel, in 1909
and lived first south of Sharon in a house owned by W.C. Schiff, later on the
Jim Dobbs farm, west of Pixley near the North Star School. His sisters and
brothers were Myrtle Rucker, Ola Wilson, Ely, May Donley, Wilber, John, Oma
McKeever, Elva Cole, and Gilbert.
Elmer was married to Ruth Harris on July 11, 1923, and later to Grace
McGuire in 1946. Ruth's parents were Greenville and Sarah Weidner Harris, who
lived south of Pixley on the farm where the Charles Inslees' now live. The
grandparents were Hillery and Sarah (Antill) Weidner and Alexander and Eliza
(Luttrill) Harris. Brothers and sisters were Lee, Lora, Roy, Edith Wilson
Barger, Fred, Rachel McDaniel, Florence McCracken, Grace Carroll, George
and Wallace.
Dale has one older sister, Edith Werner.
He attended both grade and high school in Sharon, graduating with the class
of 1944. On July 17, 1959, he married Shirley Ann Schiff, the daughter of
Curtis and Mildred (Toombs) Schiff. Shirley was born October 20, 1938, and
grew up with her three sisters, Sandy Vandeveer, Donna Rowe, and Sue Marshall,
and one brother Tom Schiff, and attended grade school at Walstead country
school, high school at Medicine Lodge, graduating in 1956, and graduated
from Pratt Juco in 1959.
Dale and Shirley have two children, a sons, Jeff, born February 16, 1961,
and now a Senior at Sharon High School, where he had the honor of being
named a Kansas Scholar. Their daughter, Ruth Ann, was born July 29, 1966,
and is a seventh grade student at Sharon School.
The family lives on the home place, four miles east of Sharon, where they
are engaged in farming, and Dale is employed by The Farmers Co-op as branch
manager at Corwin. Shirley is active in Sharon ABW, EHU, Study and Social
Club, is a former 4-H member, and has been a 4-H leader for several years.
Dale is a church trustee, and the whole family are members of the Sharon
First Baptist Church and active in all activities, as well as other
communtiy activities.
We are proud to have been raised in Barber County and can call it our
home.
