John D. McGee

   
       John D. McGee, born August 7, 1916, Alfalfa County, Oklahoma, was the
     only son of W.C. and Mae McGee, and only grandson of John C. and Lillie
     McGee.
       He graduated from Kiowa High School in 1934, and then attended North-
     western State at Alva, Oklahoma, where he met his wife, Minnie Shell-
     hammer of Bluff City, Kansas. She taught school in Grant Co., Oklahoma,
     for two years, and they were married in 1938.
       Except for a few years in business, John has always farmed. He was a
     member of the original Hospital Board that organized and built the Kiowa
     District Hospital and Clinic that opened August 17, 1951. He served as
     Treasurer until 1957, when he became Administrator of the Hospital. In
     1975 he was eleccted and served as chairman of the Kansas Hospital
     Association.
       The McGee's have four children - John W. of Hutchinson, Kansas, a 
     graduate of Kansas State University, married Mary Lynn Lewis, of Kiowa,
     and they have two sons, John Gregory and Christopher Jay. Their daughter,
     Carol McGee Rhea, an Emporia State graduate, lives in Topeka and is
     assistant director of Vocational Education for the State of Kansas,
     employed by the State Department of Education. James B. of Rose Hill,
     Kansas, graduated from Central State University, Edmond, Oklahoma, and
     married Crystal Port of Davenport, Oklahoma. Their children are Jeanne
     Bridgett, Joseph Clinton, and Jameson Brent. Max lives on a farm near
     Kiowa, graduated from Northwestern State University, Alva, Oklahoma, and
     married Gale Aulds of Alva, Oklahoma. They have two children, Jason
     Worley and Jamie Ann. John W. and James B. served with the U.S. Marine
     Corps during the Vietnam Conflict. The McGee family has always been 
     active in the Kiowa Congregational Church.
