H.K. McKeever
Huston K. McKeever and wife, the former Blondell V. Fair, the daughter of J.R.
and Etta R. Fair, established their home four miles south of Sharon (where Lucille
Blick presently lives), after their marriage August 14, 1918, the 35th anniversary
of his parents, John N. and Mary L. McKeever.
In 1924 they with their daughter, Nadine, moved to their home just west of
Sharon. Rachel joined the family here.
Farming and cattle have been the main interest through the years. Two sows,
given them by H.K.'s uncle for a wedding gift, started them in the hob business.
This blood line continued for the 60 years they produced hogs.
Polled Herefords and milk cows along with chickens still keep them busy.
Church and community are important, having been active in the church - H.K.
as an elder and Blondell as Sunday School teacher and in woman's work. H.K. also
served as a school board member. Both followed in their father's footsteps as
stockholders in the Sharon Valley State Bank.
Nadine married Clyde H. Johnson. He joined the farming operation in 1946. One
of the acreages farmed is commonly referred to by the family as "Poverty Flat,"
a name given it by J.R. some 80 years ago because it would only produce 10 bushel
an acre wheat.
Rachel is married to Vernon McDaniel.
Six grandchildren and eight grandchildren have been added to the family tree.
