Frank McLain
Frank and Marietta (Marnie) McLain moved to the Hostetter Ranch northeast of
Sun City on Mulberry Creek from Toronto, Kansas, in 1908. They had four teenagers,
2 boys - Marion and Dan, 2 daughters - Ruth and Gene, and an eleven-year old son
Glenn, at this time.
Four of these children married people born in Barber County. These four couples
spent all or part of their married lives in Barber County.
Marion McLain married Ruth Massey, who was born ona ranch on Turkey Creek north-
west of Sun City. they spent all of thier married life in Barber County.
Sam McLain married Lina Burgin, who was born on the ranch adjoining the McLain
ranch on the north. It was also on Mulberry Creek, and they started their married
life on the McLain ranch, helping his father.
Ruth McLain marriedDelbert Burgin, who was also born on the Burgin ranch on
Mulberry Creek in northern Barber County. They later lived south of Sun City, south
of the Medicine river.
Glen McLain married Blanche Harmon, who was born i Sun City. They too started
their married life on the McLain ranch.
Gene McLain married James Wheatley of Isabel, Kansas. They made their home at
Santana, Kansas.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank McLain ran a grain elevator in Sun City in conjunction with
their ranch for several years prior to WWII. Mr. McLain died in 1940, and Mrs. McLain
continued to live on the ranch a while, then moved to Sun City. She passed away in
1963.
