Preston McNally


     The McNallys - Preston, Dorothy, and daughter, Patricia, 3 years old - 
   came to Barber County the first of August, 1950, moving from Waynoka, Okla.,
   to the Bud Hall ranch in the Union Chapel community. Preston and Dorothy
   Ferguson were born and raised on farms near Waynoka, grew up, and went to 
   country schools and Waynoka High School. Preston attended Northwestern State
   College and served 42 months in the U.S. Air Force in WWII. Dorothy attended
   Wichita Business College. They were married on January 6, 1944. After his
   discharge, they lived on a farem near Waynoka. During Preston's military
   service, Dorothy worked at Boeing Aircraft Co. and later for the Santa Fe
   trainmaster in Waynoka.
     While living on the Hall ranch, they both became involved in community
   affairs and served as 4-H Club leaders for Lone Eagle 4-H Club. Michael was
   born June 13, 1953, and Leslie was born April 30, 1955. In 1956 they leased
   a part of the HOlmes ranch and moved to what was known as the Pardee place,
   1 1/2 miles south of Union Chapel. The family attended Union Chapel Church
   regularly. They operated both the Holmes and the Hall land until 1965, when
   they purchased the L.E. (Dick) Wolgamott property on the east edge of 
   Hardtner and moved there in July, giving up the Holmes land but retaining
   the Hall ranch.
     As Patricia, Mike, and Leslie grew up and became 4-H Club members, the
   whole family became more involved in community activities. Preston served
   as Elwood Township trustee for a number of years, 10 years as president of
   the Barber County Fair Association, and as County Commissioner of the 3rd
   District from 1969 to 1977. Dorothy has been employed at the Farmers State
   Bank since 1967. All three children graduated from Hardtner High School.
     Patricia and John Ethan Trotter were married in the Union Chapel Church
   on June 12, 1965. Ethan graduated from Northwestern State University, and
   they then moved to Colorado where Patricia earned her degree in Home
   Economics at Colorado State University, Ft. Collins, Colorado. They presently
   reside in Wooward, Oklahoma, where Pat is the County Home Economist and
   Ethan works as an insurance Adjustor for the Oklahoma Farm Bureau. They
   have two children, Laura, age 10, and Brian, age 8.
     Mike attended Pratt Juco and Hays College. Mike (single) is presently
   living on the Hall ranch and is associated with Preston and Leslie in 
   farming and ranching. They also operate the W.A. Wheat ranch on Sand Creek, 
   which is leased from Mr. Wheat's daughter, Mrs. Charles (Helen) Gordon.
     Leslie attended Northwestern State University two years and is a senior
   at Kansas State Univesity. Leslie and lynette K. Bond, daughter of Mr. and
   Mrs. Lowell Bond, were married in the Methodist Church, Hardtner, Aug. 20,
   1977. Lynette is a graduate of Kansas State University and is presently
   earning her Masters Degree. At present, they are residing in Manhattan,
   Kansas.
     The McNallys continue to be active in the community of Hardtner.
