Henry Arthur Mease


       Henry Arthur Mease, son of Edison Alvin and Elizabeth Walkey Mease, was
     born at Galena, Missouri, September 12, 1891. The family lived in various
     places until they moved to Barber County near Nashville in 1912 where he
     engaged in farming. He was married to Laura Wehling January 5, 1915. Laura,
     daughter of Henry and Augusta Mahlman Wheling, was born January 11, 1892
     at Lanham, Kansas. She moved to Nashville, Kansas with her parents in 1909.
       Henry was a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge at Isabel and of the Presbyterian
     Church at Nashville. He was a member of the Nashville community for 34 years.
     His was the first death of a family of twelve children. He died May 29, 1946
     at his home near Nashville.
       Laura was an active member of the Nashville Presbyterian Church. She loved
     music and enjoyed playing the piano. She liked making things by crochet,
     sewing, piecing quilts, etc. for her children and grandchildren.
       The family most always went to town on Saturday night. They sold their
     eggs and bought groceries, then attended the movie or visited with friends.
     Everyone went to town!
       Laura often played piano, Henry Wehling the fiddle and Herb Wehling the
     French harp for family reunions or get-togethers. Even in the last few
     years, her neighbors enjoyed hearing her play piano, not realizing they 
     were listening while doing their yard work, she shared her talent.
       Hanry and Laura lived on the farm near Nashville and there reared their
     children. They had five children, four boys and one daughter. One son,
     Vernon, drowned at the age of two, another son died at birth. The three
     other children are Paul (Bob) Mease of Isabel, Kansas who married Reva
     Coss, Pearl who married Vernon Coss, and Glenn who married Jane Kimsey.
       Bob and Reva's children are Robert who married Linda Boyd and has two
     daughters, Jennifer and Melinda, and Don who married Sondra Kumberg. Sondra
     and Don have two daughters, Amy and Emily, and one son, Chad.
       Pearl and Vernon's daughters are Kay who married Bob Korff and has a son,
     Charles Frederick, Ann, who married Jerry Hanson, and has two daughters,
     Ami and Andria, and a son, Chris. Jan married Leon Wheat and has a son,
     Pat, and a daughter, Jamie.
       Glenn and Jane's family are a son, Fred, who married Venora Lampe, their
     daughters are Cindy and Carla, and a daughter, Glenna, who married Melvin
     Reif. Their children are Kim, Kathy and Kristy. Glenn died in May, 1978.
       Laura was making her home with her daughter, Pearl, in Medicine Lodge at
     the time of her death May 15, 1973. Both Henry and Laura are interred at 
     the Isabel Cemetery.
