Riley Cleveland Merideth


     The Riley Cleeland Merideth family lived in Kiowa, Kansas near where the
  present football field is located. The Merideth children Eve, Wilma, Virgie,
  Jim, and Theta Faye attended school in Kiowa.
     The Merideth farm was located south of Kiowa about 8 miles. Part of this
  land was acquired by Rile (R.C.) Merideth's father, Jim, during the running
  of the Cherokee Strip.
     Infant son, William Atten, died in Kiowa, on October 30, 1917 of pneumonia.
  Theta Faye, age 5, died April 21, 1918 of pneumonia as did Edna Margie, age
  6 months on May 19, 1918.
     Eva, Wilma and Virgie later attended school in Burlington, when the road
  was improved from the farm to town.
     Jim Merideth returned to Kiowa schools and graduated in 1932 from Kiowa
  high school. He and R.C. later owned the Livestock sale in Alva, Oklahoma.
     The Merideth grandchildren affectionately called R.C. "Big Daddy", and
  Naomi "Big Mama".
     Eva Merideth Allenbach lives at Burlington, Wilma Merideth at Alva, and
  Virgie Merideth Lewis, near Hazelton.
     Jim Merideth was killed by lightning, while working at his farm on April
  30, 1973. His widow, Ruth, resides in Alva.
     This is being written in their momory by a granddaughter Mrs. Donald W.
  Lonker, formerly Barbara Lewis of Hazelton.
