Harold Glenn Moore
Spec. 5 Harold Glenn Moore, son of John H. and Lora (Urton) Moore, was
born December 2, 1929 on a farm west of Medicine Lodge. He received his
education at Mingona Rural School and graduated from Medicine Lodge High
School in the class of 1948.
As a young man, he farmed in partnership with his father, had been
employed on various ranches around Medicine Lodge, had developed skill
in carpentry, and also worked as a roughneck in the oil fields for Gabbert-
Jones.
He entered the military service during the Korean Crisis in 1951. He was
dischared after his enlistment expired in 1953, at which time he returned
to Medicine Lodge. Then he re-enlisted in 1956 and spent fourteen more
years in continuous military service.
During his seventeen years in the Army, he had been stationed at Camp
Chaffee, Fort Knox, Kentucky, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and Fort Huachuca,
Arizona. He saw action in Korea, spent two tours of duty in Viet Nam and
twice had been stationed in Germany. He was in the Engineer branch of the
Army, a specialist in the maintenance and operation of heavy engineering
equipment.
His commanding officer wrote that Harold was well liked and respected by
all of his associates. He was an excellent soldier, and was considered the
best heavy equipment operator in the entire battalion. Harold was in Germany
at the time of his death and he died in the 5th General Hospital in Bad
Cannstat, Germany. He was 41 years old. At the time of his death he was
with Company D, 94th Engineer Battalion.
