Cornelius Nida
Cornelius Mathew Nida, son of Anthony H. and Sarah Ann Kincaid Nida,
was born March 6, 1862, in Grundy County, Missouri, later moving to
Henry County with his parents and family.
He worked on the railroad as a young man and married Laura Stevenson
in 1881. Two children, Mary Nora Lillard (12/18/1882-10/7/1977) and
Albert Martin (9/15/1884-11/2/1958) were born to the union. Laura
contracted pneumonia during a severe winter in Northern Kansas, where
her husband was working and passed away. She was buried in a cemetery
near Vermillion, Kansas, in March 1887.
Cornelius then married Virginia M. Minich, October 8, 1889 at Clinton,
Missouri. Their children, Atha May (Mrs. Claude Cowden), Georgia (Mrs.
Will Utterback), Mathew Albert Nida, William C. Nida, Ernest F. Nida,
Robert Towe Nida, and Charles Nida were all born near LaDue, Missouri.
In 1903 Corneulius brought his family to Barber County, Kansas, and
located northeast of Kiowa, Kansas, on a farm and was engaged in farming
corn, wheat, oats, cattle, hogs, and sheep.
Two of the sons Bert and Bill, were in military service near the close
of WWI, but never had to go overseas.
In 1921 they left the farm and moved into Hazelton, where they spent
the rest of their lives in retirement. They attended the First Baptist
Church and were faithful members as long as their health permitted.
