Ezra Harrison Nixon

   
        Ezra Harrison Nixon came to Mediine Lodge, Kansas, in the early part of
      1885. He had been raised in Iowa, and as a young man came to Oxford, Kansas.
      In October, 1885, he married Jessie Millington of Winfield, Kansas. They 
      arrived in Medicine Lodge by stage coach. For a month they lived in the
      new Grand Hotel before they found a house and began housekeeping. Jessie
      Nixon was the daughter of Daniel Millington, a founder of Winfield, Kansas,
      and the editor of the Winfield Courier.
        Jessie Nixon was a charter member of the Monday Afternoon Club and helped
      organize the City LIbrary and Episcopal Church in Medicine Lodge. Ezra
      worked with farm loans and real estate. In 1889 he formed a business called
      the Nixon & Noble Hardwar. In 1902 he was State Representative for two
      years; also a Federal Land Agent in 1906. Ezra organized the Barber County
      Abstract Company in 1912.
        The Nixons had four children. Rachel Ann was educated at Southwestern
      College, was Advertising Manager of Best Brothers until 1933, moved to
      Clovis, New Mexico and bought the Fox News Stand; she later started The
      Magazine Wholesale. She was a member of IAG, DAR, Huntington Family
      Association, Boon Family Association, Episcopalian, Kansas Authors,
      Monday Afternoon Club, and director of the Indian Peace Treaty. She wrote
      "The Spirit of the Prairie," the Pageant Prologue that is still being used.
        Harry married Ruth Long in a double ceremony with Ruth's sister, Addie,
      and Dillon Shaw in 1920. It was quite an event of the times! Harry was
      educated at Southwestern College i Winfield, Kansas. He was engaged in
      abstracting and insurance, owned a men's clothing store, and helped Ruth
      with her dress shop. Harry and Ruth had two children, Jane and Harrison.
        Harrison married Maxine Kelle and lived in Medicine Lodge. They have
      two boys. As of this date, Harry lives with his wife, Stephanie, in Pratt,
      Kansas; John attends Kansas State in Manhattan, Kansas.
        Jane married D.L. Fowler; they have one son, Jefferson, his wife, Nola
      Klusman, and their two sons, Kevin and Kyle, all reside in Medicine Lodge.
        Jess married Laura Hoplite of St. Louis. After the war, they moved to
      Phoenix, Arizona. He was in the banking business. Their two children were
      Jessie and Francis.
        Willard married Marion Kenny of Hardtner, Kansas. They had one daughter,
      Marion Sue. He was associatied with his sister in the Magazine Wholesale
      in Clovis, New Mexico. He suffered a stroke in 1952 and was bedfast until
      his death in 1967.
        Ezra's and Jessie's boys were all Republicans, Masons, American Legion
      and VFW members. They all passed away when they were 72 years of age. All
      three boys served in France in World War I at the same time. It was told
      that kids of all ages wanted to go to the Nixons. Everybody always had a
      good time.
