Walter C. Nyberg

Miriam Kindig was born in Wichita, Kansas, but moved to Medicine Lodge in October.
1925 at 6 months of age with her parents, Bruce A. Kindig and Hyacinth (Matney) Kindig,
when her father accepted a position teaching science in the junior high and senior
high school, a position he held for 38 years.
While growing up, I attended primary and secondary school graduating in 1943. My
activities were centered around the school, church, and 4-H. Weekends were spent
hiking in the Gyp Hills, playing tennis and riding bicycles.
Upon graduation I worked for a while in Long Beach, California, Pratt, and Wichita,
Kansas. I decided to go to school in Omaha, Nebraska, and upon graduation married in
March, 1946, Walter C. Nyberg, son of Charlie and Gena (Lystrom) Nyberg, who are
natives of Minnesota. I met Walter in Pratt as a USO Hostess.
We moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he worked as a machinist and I worked as
a stenographer. Since the cold climate bothered his arthritis, we moved back to Kansas
in January 1947. He attended Wichita Business College and in July 1948 went to work
as an insurance adjuster for Kansas Farm Bureau. Then our moves began. We resided in
Wichita, Manhattan, Hays, Pratt, and Great Bend, Kansas. In May 1972 he was employed
by Crawford and Company in Wichita, and in August, 1972, we moved to our present
  location in Wichita.
We have three sons, Gary Dean, age 25; Karl Alvin, age 21; and Timothy Dale, age
  19. Gary graduated from high school in Great Bend, graduated from Wichita Business
College and worked as an accountant; but decided that was not for him, so started
painting houses and is now employed in apartment management and maintenance.
Karl graduated from Wichita Heights High School and is now at Massachussets
Institute of Technology, majoring in electrical engineering and computer sciences.
Last summer he was employed by Texas Instruments and will return there for summer
and fall terms to work on his Master's thesis. In January, 1979, he toured Moscow,
  Russia.
Timothy graduated from Wichita Heights High School and is now a freshman at Wichita
State University. Since his afternoons are free, he is also doing apartment management
and maintenance and in the evenings is coaching a Salvation Army Biddy Basketball team.
Although I no longer live in Barber County, I still call it home and have many
friends there that I will always treasure and many happy memories. The whole family
enjoys going to the Gyp Hills to enjoy the scenery and fresh air.
(Miriam is deceased, September 9, 1979, in Wichita, Kansas, and is interred in
  Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.)
