Robert Ott
Robert was born September 28, 1940 in Wichita, Kansas. He was the son
of Lee and Jennie Ott. Pobert spent his younger years growing up on the
family farm, 18 miles southwest of Medicine Lodge. He went to school at
the Lasswell school; one year there were only 5 students going to school
there. In 1953 the family moved to town when the farm sold. Robert
graduated in 1958; shortly afterwards he went to Denver, Colorado, to
attend Floral Design School, to return and work in his family floral
shop.
On June 25, 1961, Robert married Betty Wood, daughter of Albert and
Goldie Wood.
Betty was born May 30, 1943, in Port Arthur, Texas, where her father
was working in the ship yards. She later moved to Cunningham, Kansas.
In 1955 her family moved to Medicine Lodge, as her father was now working
for the Skelly Oil Company. Betty had one brother Albert, who now resides
in Manhattan, Kansas. Betty was in the last graduating class of the school
building on First and Main Streets in Medicine Lodge.
Robert had one sister, Dana Rose, who now resides in Piccayune, Mississippi.
Robert and Betty have 4 daughters who born in the following years: Tracy
in 1962, Gwenn in 1964, Jennifer in 1968, and Sherly in 1976. Robert and
Betty both enjoy working in the Indian Peace Treaty Pageant. Robert's
grandfather was in the first pageant in 1927, and with his daughters being
in it makes 4 generations of the Ott family being in the Pageant.
Robert belongs to Delta Lodge #77 AF&AM, where he is a Past Master of
that Lodge and is also a Past District Deputy Grand Master. Robert and
Betty both belong to Lorraine Chapeter #39 OES, where they have both
served as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron.
Robert and Betty, along with their family, belong to the First Christian
Church of Medicine Lodge, where they have served the Lord in working
throughout the Church.
Betty has enjoyed working with the Rainbow Girls, where she has served
7 years as Mother Advisor of Rainbow Assembly #33.
Robert and Betty are working with the young people of today and trying
to keep a little bit of our history alive here in Medicine Lodge and
Barber County.
