Gary L. Ousley

Gary Ousley, his wife, Edna and their daughter, Pamela, entered the pages
of Barber County history in August 1957 when they moved to Medicine Lodge
from Norman, Oklahoma. Gary had recently graduated from Oklahoma University
and was employed by Cities Service Gas Company.
Their first home was in the basement section of a four-plex at 328 W.
Central, Apr. No. 3. Their next home was at 302 N. Oak. One week after that
move the company transferred Gary to Independence, Kansas. They returned to
Medicine Lodge in June 1958, and resided at 509A Forrest. They later moved
to the little red house at 509C Forrest, owned by Ray Ives.
Gary became Production Engineer for his employer and worked in all the
natural gas fields in and around Barber County, and as far away as Marion
County in Kansas and Grant County in Oklahoma.
Gary participated in many civic activities and was Secretary-Treasurer
of the Lions Club from 1961 to 1962, and was a charter member of the Jaycee's
in Medicine Lodge, becoming the second president of the club in 1962. During
his term as president, the present street signs were purchased and installed,
a defibrilator donated to the hospital emergency room and a resuscitator was
placed at the swimming pool at the park. Edna was active in the vaccine
clinics held by the Jaycee's. Gary also served on the City Planning Commission
(1962-1964) and was a charter member of the Barber County Historical Society.
He has accumulated a large 'scrap book' of information on Barber County
history and its people. He keeps up with the Barber County history through
'hand me down' Barber County indexes. He also worked in some of the Peace
      Treaty pageants.
The family was living at 822 N. Walnut when their daughter, Pam, started
to school. Their son, Barry, was born at the Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital
on March 18, 1962, with Dr. Hoffer as the attending physician.
They were living at 302 N. Walnut when they stepped out of the pages of
Barber County history in October 1964. They have made their home since that
time in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and currently reside at 6300 Willow Ridge
Dr. Gary is a geologist in the company's main office in downtown Oklahoma
      City.
Pam graduated from Phillips University at Enid, Oklahoma in 1978, with a
degree in Psychology and is currently employed as a house parent at the
American Legion Children's Home in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Barry is a Junior
in High School and is at home.
