former Lulo Patterson of Hutchinson, Kansas, and three sons: Ray, Dwight,
and Dorse, came to Medicine Lodge in 1911.
Mr. Overstreet was born in Gentry County, Missouri, in 1870. He
apprenticed for four years under a German watchmaker in Hutchinson, Kansas.
He married his wife in Hutchinson in 1896, where he operated a watchmaking
and jewelry store.

who married Carlton Trimble, and lives in Thayer, Missouri. All five children

From the time Sam Overstreet opened his jewelry store in Medicine Lodge in
1911 until his son Ray, who operated it after hime, retired to the Masonic
Home in Wichita in 1967, a jewelry store in Medicine Lodge bore the
Overstreet name.
His son Dwight opened a jewelry store in Kiowa, Kansas, in 1927, where
he married the former Carrie Sippel of Kiowa. Mrs. Dwight Overstreet worked
with him in the business through the years. In 1978, Dwight Overstreet
closed his store in downtown Kiowa, and now has his business down to just
a little repair work which he does in his home.
Sam;s son Dorse chose, instead of jewelry, to become a grocer and a
salesman. He resides in Wichita, Kansas.
The Sam Overstreet family were all active in the Baptist Church in
Medicine Lodge.
Sam Overstreet and his three sons were all members of the Masonic Order.
