Ralph Owen

The Sharon Valley Bank of Sharon, Kansas celebrated its 75th anniversary in
1978. Ralph Owen served as banker forty-six of those years. One of his many
accomplishments was to build a strong and trustworthy insurance agency. He had
enjoyed working in the new bank building six years before his death in 1972.
He served customers many years, making out their income tax. He served on the
City Council and School Board, as clerk and treasurer for many years.
In 1929, Ralph and wife Madalene (Smith) bought a house and raised their
two children, a daughter LoRay, and a son Pere. Both graduated from Sharon
High School. LoRay attended Manhattan college on year then transferred to
Wichita Unicersity one year, then worked for and insurance company until she
married and moved to Alva, Oklahoma. She worked in the First National Bank
Trust Department. She married a former classmate, Lester Laudick, formerly of
Sharon. He graduated from Northwestern College of Alva, Oklahoma. They moved
to Stillwater, Oklahoma, where Lester attended O.S.U. He received his masters
degree in Chemistry and they moved to Duncan, Oklahoma, where he works in a
commanding position in the Analytical Department with Halliburton Oil Company.
They have a daughter who is a sophomore at O.S.U., majoring in engineering.
Pere graduated from Kansas University at Lawrence, Kansas. He spent three
years at Kansas City Medical School, earing is Doctor's Degree. He married Jo
Westphal of Wichita. She had been a Sharon resident three years. They have
  three children.
Pere served his internship in Wesley Hospital then, with the family, moved
to Omaha, Nebraska, where he served two years in the Air Force at Offett Air
Base. They moved to Boston where Pere was a resident doctor and specialized in
Anesthesiology. A few years later he passed the National Board in his chosen
profession. He took the written test in Dallas and the oral in Houston. He is
now a professional anesthesiiologist in Wesley, St. Joseph, and The Minor
Surgery Center hospitals in Wichita. The Minor Surgery Center was instigated,
built and is served by the team of seven doctors called 'Professional
Anesthesiologist Group of Doctors.' They have a nice ofice in Wichita. Three
years ago Pere built a new home on 40 acres, four miles northeast of Goddard,
Kansas, where his children attend school.
Mrs. Owen taught five years in the Sharon Elementary School, where she
served as the Grade School Principal for two years. She enjoyed her years as a
member of the Social and Study Club, the American Legtion Auxiliary, the
Christian Women's Fellowship and teaching Sunday School classes in the Church.
She still resides in her home, and which her children call HOME in capital
letters. They agree that there truly has been a 'heap of living' in this old
house for the past 50 years.
