Oliver B. Piersall
Oliver Bernell Piersall, born November 12, 1892 at Salt Lick, Kentucky,
and Eunice Leree McDowell, born April 22, 1897 in Harper County, Kansas
were married April 10, 1915 at Arnett, Oklahoma.
Oliver B. was known as "Skeet" to all his friends.
They made their home on the "Home Place" 10 miles north of Shattuck,
Oklahoma. They had four sons and four daughters. The three oldest sons
went to war in 1942, all of them enlisting in the service of their country,
the youngest, Ted, served in Korea. Their prayers were answered as when
the war ended all returned home safely.
The family moved from Shattuck, Oklahoma to Hardtner, Kansas in 1935.
Skeet was a custodian at the Hardtner School before retiring.
He passed away at Stafford, Kansas, October 4, 1970, where he was making
his home with his daughter, Kathryn and husband Richard. His wife preceded
him in death January 14, 1967.
Skeet and Eunice celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family
and friends at the home of their daughter, Betty and husband Ralph, April
10, 1965, near Medicine Lodge.
Their children cherish childhood memories of lots of love and understanding
in their close-knit family.
Leland "Doc" lives in Hardtner where he is employed by the city. He has
served on Police Force for several years there. He married Gloria Merritt
of Vermont, February 21, 1945. Doc and Bill are engaged in farming and
ranching on their farms near Hardtner.
Kathryn married Richard H. Bonham of Staford, Kansas where they lived
until her death in 1975. She had five children, Chonita, Sue, Connie, John
and Terry. She had nine grandsons.
Eileen married William J. Gwinner of Ellsworth, Kansas. They have three
children: linda, John and Barbara, two grandchildren, and Jack is retired
from the U.S. Army. They live in Colorado Springs.
Lawrence (Jack) married Nadine Ancell of Anthony. They have three children:
Jackie, Barbara and Gary. They lost their first and only grandchild in
December 1977. Jack is foreman for Phillips 66 and will be retiring in
March 1980. They live in Denver but will move to Anthony, Kansas in the
spring.
George (Bill) married Bernice Luty of Kiowa. Their children are: George
C. Piersall, M.D. and Luty Ann, and two granddaughters. Bill retired as
Hardtner Postmaster in September 1978.
Betty married Ralph L. Lukens of Medicine Lodge. They had three sons:
Ralph Lynn, Teddy and Steven. Ralph Lynn entered into eternal rest March
31, 1977. Ralph has been a farmer and rancher all his life. They have two
granddaughters.
Treva married Benny Michel of Burlington, Oklahoma. They have two daughters,
Toni Kaye and Tyra. Ben and Treva have their business in Kiowa where they
have lived all their married life.
Teddy married Donna Olson of Alva, Oklahoma. They have two children: Keith
and Sherri. A son died in infancy. Ted owns and operates the Piersall Barber
Shop in Anthony.
