Donald Ragan

Donald Ragan and Eva Jefferies spent almost all their lives in Kiowa. Both of them
graduated from Kiowa High School, as did the children they later had.
On October 1, 1939, Dona nd Eva were married in Wichita, Kansas. Between them they
had accumulated about $300.00 to start married life and everything went well until the
job Don had with a construction firm ended when the firm went broke. It was a few weeks
of short term jobs until Don got the "big break". He landed a job at Stearman Aircraft
(now Boeing) at the huge sum of 40 cents an hour for handling a pick and shovel in the
maintenance department. When he left Boeing five years later to enter the Army, he was
  production planner.
When Don entered the Army, he moved his family back "home" to Kiowa. At that time
there were three children - Donita, Barry, and Jim. Eva managed to make a home for them
and kept very busy to make the time pass faster. After his time in the service, Don came
home to work for D.A. Hahn Clothing Company. Don and Eva had decided that they wanted
their children to grow up in the same small town and attend the same excellant schools
they had attended. In 1947 another son, Craig, was born and another, Phillip, followed
  in 1951.
In 1954 Don was made a partner in Hahn Clothing. He had become very well acquainted
with many people in the area. He was always very active in the Chamber of Commerce and
served many years as its Secretary and was President at one time.
Eva didn't go to work full time until her children were older, then she started as
secretary at The First State Bank (1967). She is still working there.
Don died of a heart attack in June, 1976. His children all live in Kansas. Donita
lives in Wichita, Barry in St. John, Jim in Salina, Phil in Wichita, and Craig now owns
and operates Hahn Clothing here in Kiowa. Craig's oldest daughter, Kristi, is now in
school here, and she is the fourth generation of the family to attend the Kiowa schools.
