Edd Raleigh

James Herman Raleigh and Ricke Bunte Raleigh came to McPherson County,
Kansas from Illinois in 1895. They bought a farm just a short time after
coming to their new home in a covered wagon.
During their stay in McPherson County, two children were born, Rose
and Edward H. In a few years, Mr. Raleigh bought 400 acres of land, 2
miles west of Isabel. On this farm, five more children were born to this
family. Edward H. grew to manhood in the Isabel community. He attended
     the Isabel School.
On July 15, 1914, he was united in marriage to Nannie McKay. A year
later his father was killed in a farm accident. After his father's death
Edd took over the operation of the home place. Edd loved the farm and
made this his life's work. Edd was a wonderful husband and three children
were born. Gertie, Norman and Chester. All three children now live in
     Medicine Lodge.
They enjoyed their life on the farm at Isabel. Their happiest times
were when the home was full of neighbors and friends for a delicious
meal. Edd wore out many ice cream freezers, the kind you turned by hand.
His ice cream was famous in that community.
In 1958, they left the farm and moved to Medicine Lodge, because of
Nannie's poor health. She was stricken with rheumatoid arthritis in 1941.
In July of 1964, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, with
an Open House at the Methodist Church in Medicine Lodge.
Edd passed away July 21, 1970. Nannie only lived a few months after
his death. She died October 5, 1970.
Chester Raleigh died January 17, 1980.
