and Sunday afternoon bal games.
They were married January 29, 1929, at Alva and established their home
in rural Woods County, where Alf was working for Joe Summers. They experienced
the dust storms and also one flood when water came to the door. Alf worked
on the building of the POW Camp near Alva, during WWII.
The Reeds moved to Medicine Lodge in 1950 when National Gypsum built the
board plant. Alf worked for Ditmars, Dickman, and Pickens Construction
Company of Muskogee, Oklahoma.
They moved to Mulvane, Kansas; Alf did carpentry and helped rebuild Udall,
Kansas, after the 1955 tornado that nearly destroyed that town. They bought
and moved to a small farm near Sylvia, Kansas. Alf continued to do cabinet
making and carpentry. They returned to Barber County and lived awhile in
Kiowa, then returned to Medicine Lodge, where they purchased and together
remodeled a house and have retired there.
They enjoy their sons and their families. Vernon (1929) married Phyllis
Brewington (now deceased). They had a daughter Alverna (Mrs. E.B. Palmer).

Alf and Rose celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 1979. The children
hosted a reception for their parents and grandparents. Many relatives and
friends shared the happy occasion.
Alf built play furniture for his grandchildren, which they shared and
enjoyed. Rose takes pride in her yard, garden, and flowers. Alf enjoys
fishing. They are both actively involved in Leisure Time Center, where
they have made many friends.
