Ernest Riggins
Ernest Riggins was born near Sawyer, Kansas, December 12, 1899. He spent his
early years in that vicinity. April 17, 1920, he and Bertha Greever were married
in Pratt, Kansas.
Earnest and Bertha had two sons: Robert Harold, who married Maxine Mader of
Wichita, Kansas, July 4, 1941. Harold served in the Air Force during World War II.
They have two children: William Harold (Bill) and Ruth Leeora (Lee).
Bill served in the Sea Bee's and spent some time in Viet Nam. After his discharge
he married Carol Jane (Shorty) Pauley of Viola, Kansas, October 25, 1969. They have
two sons, William Brian and Ernest Brock, all of Wichita. Lee is attending Wichita
State University majoring in music and minoring in education.
Gerald Ernest, second son of Bertha and Ernest served in the U.S. Army Eng.
during World War II, spending several months in Japan. Gerald and Johnnie Hull,
the daugter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hull, were married December 29, 1946.
They make their home in Yuma, Arizona. Sherry Dee, their daughter is a Medical
Technoligist and is married to Samuel Barker, who is a Draftsman Estimator. They
live in Tucson, Arizona. Vance Douglas, their son, has a degree in education and
plans to teach in the third and fourth grade level in Tucson, Arizona.
The Ernest Riggins farmed until 1948, when they moved to their present home
at Medicine Lodge, Kansas, where Ernest enjoys his garden. Bertha has lovely flowers
and does quilt and handwork. They keep busy and enjoy the grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
Harold was deceased in 1976.
