Carl Ringer
The Reverend Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ringer accepted a call to the pastorate at St. John's
Evangelical and Reformed Church of Hardtner in the fall of 1948, coming from Fairview,
Kansas.
Carl Ringer was born on November 15, 1910, the son of Charles A. and Sophie Gumm
Ringer, in Town Mosel, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. He received his education in rural
German schools and later graduated from Sheboygan High with the class of 1929.
He took his training for the ministry at Mission House College and Seminary of
Plymouth, Wisconsin. He served his first church in Helvetia, West Virginia, then went
to Hoisington, Kansas, Fairview and the Hardtner - Bluff City charge, where he served
for 21 years.
He was active in the Boy Scout movement, having been Cub Master in Hardtner for
many years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Midian Shrine of Wichita. He
was also an Odd Fellows member of the Miriam Rebekah Lodge of Hardtner and Encampment
of Alva, Oklahoma. He died February 23, 1969, and is buried in the family plot at Fair-
view, Kansas.
Mary Ringer was a native Kansas, born in Brown County, January 3, 1908, the daughter
of Aaron and Katie Spangler. At the age of twelve, she lost her mother and helped her
father take care of her sisters and brothers.
Carl and Mary Ringer were married on December 27, 1944, in Fairview. They had two
children, Carl Jr., and Ruth Ann, who both died in infancy. Mrs. Ringer died on July 17,
1966, after having spent the last 15 years as an invalid as the result of a stroke.
