Charles Sawyer
Charles R. Sawyer, Jr., was born March 11, 1956, at Medicine Lodge
Memorial Hospital. Charles is the youngest child and only son of
Charles and Cathy (Trembly) Sawyer. His oldes sister, Joyce Marie
(Mrs. Craig) Smith, lives at Abilene, Kansas, with husband Craig and
two sons, Benje and Andy. His other sister, Janice Ann (Mrs. Doug)
Rhodes lives at Ottawa, Kansas with husband Doug.
The family lived eight miles west of Medicine Lodge on the "Parr"
place until Charles was 2 1/2 years of age. At that time they moved
to his parents' home, one mile east of town.
Charles attended all 12 years of school in Medicine Lodge. After
graduating in 1974, he went to Northwest Kansas VoTech School in
Goodland, Kansas. He completed a nie months auto mechanics course there.
Returning to Medicine Lodge, he worked at the Champlain station for
Harry (Woody) Walters. In February, 1976, Charles went to work for
National Gypsum.
On June 12, 1976, Charles married Beverly Jane Magnison at the First
Baptist Church in Medicine Lodge.
I, Beverly, am the fourth child of Homer Urso (Pete) and Ersel Jane
(Shaddy) Magnison. I have three older brothers; Emmit Lee (who died in
infancy), James Homer, Robert Lynn; one younger brother, Randall Dean,
and a younger sister, Debra Jean.
I was born August 31, 1957, at Achenbach Memorial Hospital, Hardtner,
Kansas.
I grew up in the Union Chapel community. I attended Dry Creek School
for the first six grades. From seventh to twelfth grade I came into
town to school, graduating from Medicine Lodge High School in 1975.
As a country girl, I was involved in 4-H and all the activities of a
rural community. I especially enjoyed the Rural Bible Crusade Vacation
Bible Schools at the Chapel. All the young people in the community looked
forward to Helen Holston and Lenore Yost coming each year.
During high school, I started attending the Baptist church in Medicine
Lodge.
During the summer of 1975, I had the privilege of traveling with Teen
Missions as a summer missionary. We had two weeks of training at Merritt
Island, Florida. My team, the Pacific Southwest National Parks Team,
traveled by bus across the United States, stopping in the various parks
and campgrounds, holding campfire Bible meetings.
I returned to Medicine Lodge in September, 1975, where I was employed
by Charles Bain at the Brown Derby Drive-In. That fall Charles and I
became engaged.
Charles and I began to make wedding plans, which included finding a
place to live. As housing was scarce, we decided to build our home. We
tore down several houses, a barn and other buildings, and salvaged the
good lumber. With the help of Charles' parents and other friends and
relatives, we built an 11 room house on a half-acre, one mile east of
town. We began construction in September, 1975, and moved in July, 1977,
doing all the work in our spare time. We lived with Charle's parents
until the house was finished.
Charles is presently a kiln operator for National Gypsum. I am a
homemaker, keeping busy making a home, while also involved in teaching
Sunday School, a Ladies Bible Study, and Children's Bible Club.
Charles Raymond Sawyer, III was born February 29, 1980, Medicine Lodge.
