Edwin Schmidt

  
       Edwin and Ruth (Seiwert) Schmidt came to Sharon, Barber County, following
     their marriage April 18, 1964.
       Edwin was born December 26, 1935, 3/4 mile from the Kerr School in north-
     western Harper County, to Richard and Frances (Ricke) Schmidt. He attended
     almost 3 years of school at the Kerr School. The Schmidts moved to western
     Harper County, mid-way between Attica and Sharon, in 1944. He finished out
     the school year at the Nine Cottonwood School. The rest of his grade school
     years, he attended St. Boniface Catholic School, Sharon, and continued his
     high school a education at Sharon. He served in the Armed Forces from September 
     1, 1958, to September, 1960.
       Ruth was born in Colwich, Kansas, on July 13, 1942, daughter of Ferd and
     Esther (Linnebur) Seiwert. The family moved to Garden Plain when she was a
     baby. She attended St. Anthony's Grade School and Garden Plain High School.
     She was employed by KRH Radio, in Wichita, before her marriage.
       Edwin and Ruth met in 1962 at a wedding in Sharon and were married two
     years later in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Garden Plain. They purchased
     a home in Sharon from the Ebersole Estate and have spent several years
     remodeling it and adding on several rooms to accommodate their family.
       Their first child was a boy, Joseph, born November 17, 1965, at the Attica
     District Hospital. A daughter, Ann, was born January 26, 1967, also at Attica
     District Hospital. They are junior high students at Sharon. Joe and Ann
     share the responsibilities of an evening paper route for the Pratt Tribune.
       John was born April 5, 1970, at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital and is
     a third grader at Sharon. On November 1, 1971, another daughter, Linda,
     joined the family. She is in the first grade at Sharon.
       The family chooses summer as their favorite time of year as they love to
     travel and have visited many of the northwestern states. They also enjoy
     gardening and Sunday family bicycle rides.
       Edwin is employed at the Farmers Coop Service Station in Sharon. Along
     with gardening, he likes to spend his spare time tinkering with wood, and
     the family has several clocks to display his talent.
       Ruth is Sharon news correspondent fo the county papers and also enjoys
     sewing, reading, wrigin, and music. She is currently a teacher aide in the
     Sharon Elementary School.
