Frank Schreiner
Frank Schreiner was born in Batesville, Indiana, November 5, 1867, and
Anna Martin was born in Haupfkirchen, Germany, January 3, 1876. They were
united in marriage on November 22, 1904, at St. Marks, Kansas. They lived
in Colwich for awhile, where he was a barber and ran a saloon. He and his
brother also farmed. In 1911 Farnk decided to come to Barber County, where
he and his family lived on a farm two and one-half miles west of Sharon,
Kansas, known as the Fred Ricke farm.
Later he bought 160 acres, knwon as the Lockert farm, from George Stewart.
He also bought a 40 acre plot from Joe Stolebarger. Like many other pioneers
of his time, Frank made the Cherokee Run but did not keep his land, as the
water was so bad.
Eight children were born to this happy couple, two dying in infancy. The
remaining six, Anna, who is (Sister Mary Alberta), Matilda (Sister Mary
Alfonsa), Frances (Sister Mary Frances), Rose (Sister Mary Damian), George,
and Laurine received their elementary education in the rural schools and
St. Boniface school in Sharon.
Not many families can have the honor of four daughters enter the Convent
and receive the final profession; some celebrateing their Silver and Golden
Jubilee of the Sisterhood. They are Dominican Sister, and their Mother House
is in Great Bend, Kansas. George Schreiner married Elizabeth Ketzner April
13, 1936, and resides on a dairy farm three and one-half miles east of Sharon.
Laurine married Leo Dick May 21, 1945, and resides on the Schreiner home
place, four miles northwest of Sharon.
