Daryl D. Schwerdtfeger

Daryl and Elizabeth Schwerdtfeger moved to Hardtner after their marriage
on November 24, 1977. Liz had worked in Medicine Lodge for several months
previous to this, and Daryl was no stranger to Barber County, as his father
had owned land around Kiowa all of Daryl's life. Daryl was born in Hardtner
but grew up in the Capron, Oklahoma, area as a farm boy. His parents are
Virgil and Jean Schwerdtfeger of Capron, Oklahoma. Daryl attended Capron
and Burlington Schools and also graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State
University in Alva, Oklahoma, with a Bachelor of Science Education Degree.
He then taught public school at Davidson, Oklahoma for a year before coming
back to Capron to farm and "get taught."
Liz was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma and lived in Tonkawa, then moved to
a farm four miles east of Hunnewell, Kansas, on the Oklahoma side of the
state line. Her parents are Henry and Bessie Tanner of South Haven, Kansas.
Her family later moved about one quarter mile east of their home. Liz
attended school at Braman, Oklahoma, and South Haven, Kansas. She attended
Northern Oklahoma College where she graduated with an AAS Degree then
attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University and received her Bachelor
of Arts Degree in 1977. While attending college Liz was active in the
Baptist Student Union and also spent three summers as a summer missionary.
After graduating she worked in Medicine Lodge at Chikaskia Industry as a
Vocational Counselor. While there she lived in the basement apartment of
     Orin and Geneva Wheat.
Since their marriage and move to Hardtner, Liz has resigned at Chikaskia
Industries and is presently employed as Secretary at the Burlington, Oklahoma,
Public Schools. Daryl, his father, his mother, and his sister (Janet Hill),
have formed Schwerdtfeger Ranch, Incorporated, in which Daryl is presently
taking care of the farming and ranching.
Daryl and Liz look forward to more years as Barber County residents.
