James Shaddy

James Shaddy of Aline, Oklahoma, and Gladys Gately of Fairview, Oklahoma,
were married June 18, 1932, at Fairview, Oklahoma in the new Court House.
We lived ten miles west of Aline, Oklahoma, and farmed.
Our first daughter, Ersel Jane, was born April 22, 1933; Vernon Cyrus,
second child, was born April 24, 1935; and Fern Iva, our third child, was
born July 21, 1939. Ersel and Vernon attended school at Prairie Bell
School. We farmed and milked cows for a living.
In 1942 we moved to Cheyenne Valley, Oklahoma, then to Vickery Ranch in
1943, at Quinlin, Oklahoma, where we worked till May 1, 1945. We then
moved to Kansas and worked for John Magnison and lived on the old John
Angell place across the road from the G.E. Alexander Ranch. That was Fern's
first year of school. We worked almost 13 years for John.
March 28, 1958, we moved to the B.E. Holmes place, below the hill where
he lived. We worked almost 8 years for Preston McNally. I worked at the
Dairy Drivein at Medicine Lodge, cleaned houses, and did odds and ends jobs
to help our children through high school and college. On July 1, 1965, we
moved again and got a job with Paul Molz and lived in his farm house across
     in Woods County.
We bought our home in Hardtner in June of 1965 and moved there in May of
1967, James still worked for Molz's until June 1, 1976.
We are proud of our family - Ersel married Pete Magnison, August 1, 1949.
Vernon married Barbara Goff, November 20, 1955; both deceased July 24, 1975.
Fern married Tony Grove, June 2, 1962.
We have 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Jessica Magnison.
We have retired and live in Hardtner. We raise big gardens - can what
we need and give away the rest. We had a 4 1/2 pound sweet potato we raised
this year. James helps Preston McNally when he is needed with sheep. I make
     quilts for ps
