Robert Simpson

Robert C. Simpson, the youngest child of Warren and Mary (Clarke) Simpson,
was born 5-11-1907 in Medicine Lodge township. He attended school at #10
     school west of Medicine Lodge.
As a teenager, he lived with his brother, Lee. They farmed and broke
horses. At age 19, he cut wheat with a header on six head of mules. He
threshed wheat in summer with a threshing machine in winter he siloed
     feed with a Fordson tractor.
Robert Simpson married Marjorie Rozzelle, daughter of Raymond V. and
Kate (Springer) Rozelle, on 3-29-1930. Marjorie was born 9-4-1911, near
Gerlane. She was the oldest child, having two sisters and a brother younger
than she. She attended grade school at Gerland and went to high school at
Medicine Lodge. Through her high school years, she stayed with her Grand-
mother Springer during the week, going home on weekends.
One special memory of Marjorie's was the first Peace Treaty. She was 16
years old at the time. After the Peace Treaty was over a message came for
her father, Ray Rozzelle. He was to meet Pawnee Bill at the drug store in
town. How thrilled Marjorie remembered being when she saw him drive up in
his nice car, get out and shake hands with her Dad. To think her Dad was
     knew a celebrity!
After graduation, Marjorie went on to teach school. She taught New Kirk
School for one year until her marriage to Robert Simpson.
In the early thirties, Robert helped build 160 highway west of Medicine
Lodge, with teams of horses. In 1936 he bought a dozer and started his own
business. He built ponds and terraces in most of Barber and Comanche Counties.
Robert and Morjorie's family enjoyed going on trips every summer and fall.
Every year Robert took them to Colorado, where he enjoyed deer hunting.
Five children were born to Robert and Marjorie Simpson. They are: Phyllis
Shelite, Evelyn Pierce, Richard Simpson, Phillip Simpson, and Mary Rucker.
Marjorie passed away on 9-3-1977 after a short illness. Robert is still
living at this time and his helping his son, Phillip, who is engaged in
     dirt work.
