George James Southworth
George James Southworth was born in Charlotte, Eaton County, Michigan, on
March 23, 1852.
On May 30, 1876, George James Southworth was united in marriage to Lola
Bogat in Charlotte, Michigan.
In the year 1885 they moved to Medicine Lodge. To this union were born two
children, Nella Mable and Otto Cecil.
During George James' and Lola's lives together, they owned and operated the
Gem Drug Store in Medicine Lodge and made an all purpose lotion called "South-
worth's Mentholated Lemon Cream."
They were fortunate to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary together.
Nella Southworth married J.N. Tincher in Medicine Lodge. In the marriage,
J.N. (known as Poly) and Nella had four children: George, Coreine, Albert and
Jerry. George and Albert died at an early age. Coreine recently retired from
teaching and Jerry was a practicing attorney in Hutchinson, Kansas for many years.
The Tincher family had an interesting life. Part of it was spent in Washington
D.C., where Poly served Kansas in Congress in the "old big seventh".
Otto Cecil (known as Spot) married Georgia Grace Steele, the niece of Arthur
and "Wash" Shaw, who had moved from Portland, Indiana, to Medicine Lodge and was
a school teacher. Peggy Jane, their first daughter, was born in Medicine Lodge.
After moving to Wichita, a second girl was born, Mary Louise.
Peggy Southworth married John J. Dorran and has two children, Patricia Ann
and James Michael, and live in Philadelphia.
Mary Louise married James Tasheff and has four children, Steve, Martha,
Christine and Petra. James and Mary Louise have three grandchildren.
