George Spicer

Karen Jo Spicer, the first of four children born to George and Berniece
Spicer, arrived September 19, 1941. Born in Walloway Hospital in Anthony,
Kansas, she spent all her childhood and adolescent years in Hazelton. She
graduated from Hazelton High School in 1959, and from Northwestern State
University in Alva, Oklahoma, in 1964. She resided in Jamestown, North
Dakota, from 1964 until 1967 and worked as a social worker at the North
Dakota State Psychiatric Hospital. In 1967 she moved to San Antonio, Texas,
to attend the Worden School of Socal Service and received a Masters Degree
in Social Work in 1969. In 1970 she moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where she
owns her home and accepted a counseling position with Catholic Charities.
In 1973 she was appointed to the Executive Director position with that
agency where she remains at the time of this writing.
Karen adopted a daughter, Magan Elizabeth (Maggie) born April 10, 1972
in Fort Worth. Maggie is in the first grade at St. Peters School at this
     writing.
Although living in Texas several years, Karen continues to think of being
only temporarily away from Barber County, specifically Hazelton. Fond Barber
County memories include the lasting friendships of classmates, also the
continued closeness of aunts and uncles from the extended family.
Samuel Raymond (Sam) Spicer, the third child of George and Berniece Spicer,
was born January 3, 1947 in Hardtner. Born and reared in Barber County, his
short times away from the county include college, basic training in Texas
with the Kansas National Guard, and his attendance at an auctioneer training
course in Missouri. Sam is a 1965 graduate of Hazelton High School graduate
of NWOSU in Alva. He is presently engaged in independent agriculture and
cattle raising. He also auctions frequently. Sam owns his home at the south
edge of Hazelton. Sam has maintained friendships with fellow "Barber Countians:
     throughout the years.
Susan Beth Spicer Luthi, the fourth and final child of George and Berniece
Spicer, was born in Hardtner on December 17, 1948. She graduated from Hazelton
Grade and High School. Her class was the final class to graduate from Hazelton
High. Susan attended NWOSU in Alva where sh met and married Dannie Gene Luthi,
the son of Johnnie and Mary Jan Luthi of Perryton, Texas. Susan and Dan were
married January 15, 1971 in Spearman, Texas. They subsequently moved to Robbins,
Scott County, Tennessee, where they currently reside. Dan is engaged in raising
cattle and farming, and is a school teacher. After several years of employement
with the Scott County Independent School System, Susan is now a full-time
homemaker. She and Dan have a little girl, Cassi Elizabeth, born April 27, 1976,
     in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Susan loves music. She sings and plays the guitar and is often called upon
to sing at various community functions.
Although the area of Tennessee where she lives is beautiful with its Smokey
Mountains, gentle rains, and multitudinous wild flowers to Susan there is really
no beauty that compares to wheat fields, flat lands and ultimately home.
Barber County memories to Susan include long time friendships with grade and
high school, college, and other friends.
