Jacob Strohl
Jacob Strohl (1850-1912) and Mary Neff (1854-887) were married November 13, 1873
in Illinois. They came to Barber County in 1884. They brought along their two children
(Gertha, 8 and Arthur, 5); his brother Tom Strohl, a widower; his brother Joseph Strohl,
wife Anna, and their two children (Clarence, 5 and Temperence, 8 months).
In May 1885 Jacob and Tom went to Meade County, Kansas, to homestead claims. Jacob's
wife and children remained in Barber County. In August 1885, their son Frank was born.
When Frank was three weeks old, the family moved to Meade County, Kansas.
Jacob's wife, Mary, died in April, 1887. A maiden sister of Jacob's came to keep
house. The family remained in Meade County for ten years, before returning to Barber
County.
Jacob was in the grain business in Isabel with the Smith Grain Company (forerunner
of Larabee Milling Company.)
Joseph Strohl and Jacob Strohl were postmasters in Isabel at one time or another.
