George Alfred Sutton


     George Alfred Sutton, the youngest child of Emory L. and Lena (Sternberger)
  Sutton was born January 1, 1926, on the home place northwest of Hardtner. He
  attended Eldred Rural School #15 until 1937, when the district consolidated 
  with Hardtner; he graduated with the class of 1943.
     He was drafted in the Army, April 13, 1945 and took his basic trainging in
  the infantry at Camp Fannin, Texas; he later served with the 92nd Evacuation
  Hospital and the 25th Medical Battalion of the 8th Army. He was then sent to
  Japan to serve with the occupational forces in Nagoya and Osaka, until October
  1946. He received his discharge at Camp Beale, California, in December 1946.
     In 1947 he went out to Hartley, Texas, and worked for a summer, then to 
  Beaver, Oklahoma, to work for an uncle, Ernest Roberson, in his variety store
  and flower shop. In 1948 he came back to Barber County and worked with his
  brother for his father on the farm.
     August 11, 1951 he married Joan Hinze of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, whom he met
  when he worked at the Achenback Memorial Hospital. They are the parents of five
  children.
     John resides in Moore, Oklahoma, with his wife, the former Nancy Ellen Grant
  of Hardtner. He will graduate from Oklahoma University with a master's degree
  in immunology. Nancy is a registered nurse, receiving her traingin from Wesley
  School of Nursing in Wichita. They ahve one daughter, Amanda Ann.
     James attended Fort Hays Kansas State College and Ozark Bible College. He
  lives in Joplin, Missouri, with his wife, the former Debbie Weber.
     Emily graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing of Wichita, in May 1979.
     Tom is a sophomore at South Barber High School, where he is a member of the
  FFA chapter.
     Bill is in the fifth grade of South Barber Elementary School.
