Richard Turnbull

  
       The history of Richard and Mary Turnbull began with the grandparents,
     John Turnbull, born 4-8-1846 and Margaret Cook, born 6-9-1854. They were
     married in February 1872 near Jedbury, Scotland. They left Scotland three
     months later for the United States by way of Quebec, Canada.
       They settled near Pawnee City, Nebraska, then moved to Summerfield,
     Kansas in 1884. Their children were Jennie, John, Jim, Will, George and
     Robert..
       John Sr. passed away 7-151927 and Margaret, 2-10-1934.
       Grandfather W.G. Osborn was born 9-11-1846 in Vigo County, Indiana. He
     moved to Garnett, Kansas in 1865. Spring 1874, W.G. traveled to Great Bend,
     then south to Sun City, then down Medicine River where he found a claim
     which he bought fo 50 cents and a silver watch. This is the farm still
     owned by Richard and Nelson Turnbull.
       W.G. Osborn was a member of the militia which patroled the Indian 
     Territory border from Caldwell to Dodge City. He also hauled freight from
     Wichita to Medicine Lodge.
       Jennie Stoughton was born 12-23-1848. Her parents were Barnard Stoughton
     and Susan Myer. The Stoughton family moved to southwest Missouri in 1867.
     Jennie taught school several years near Pierce City, Missouri. She taught
     one term near Sherman, Texas. Jennie also ran a millinary store for 16
     months. The family moved to Barber County in August 1878. Jennie taught at
     District 16 west of Medicine Lodge.
       Jennie Stoughton and W.G. Osborn were married 2-12-1879. Their children
     were Leon, Cecile, Ermine and George. They reared them in the country. W.G.
     passed away 8-4-1919 and Jennie 6-23-1940. She published her memoirs for
     her grandchildren.
       Richard's father, George Turnbull, was born 11-18-1880 near Pawnee City,
     Nebraska. Geroge traveled by covered wagon to woodward, Oklahoma in early
     1900's. He came to Medicine Lodge in 1906 and went to work for D.W. Stone.
       Ermine Osborn was born 3-11-1885. She taught school several years. George
     Turnbull and Ermine Osborn were married 11-28-1912. Their children were 
     Richard and Nelson. George passed away 12-11-1958 and Ermine, 10-20-1970.
       Mary's grandfather, James Overton Warren was born at Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
     Her grandmother, Mary Elizabeth, was born 9-18-1855 in Polk County, Missouri.
     Their children were Harve, Newton, Orron, Flora, Myrtle and Jay. They moved
     to Virgil, Kansas and later to Barber County.
       Stephan and Barbara Brown moved to Barber County from Danbury, Nebraska.
     After several years, Stephan and Barbara moved to Applegate, California.
     The Brown children were Lillian, Margaret, Donna and William.
       Newton Bird Warren was born 9-7-1877 at Virgil, Kansas. Donna Brown was
     born 9-21-1886 at Danbury, Nebraska. Newton and Donna met in Barber County
     and were married 3-22-1906. Their children were Guy, Gertrude and Mary.
     Newton passed away 4-13-1970 and Donna, 5-15-1973.
       Richard, son of George and Ermine Osborn Turnbull, was born 8-24-1913
     near Medicine Lodge. Mary Ellen Warren, daughter of Newton and Barbara
     Brown Warren, was born 4-26-1914 near Medicine Lodge.
       Richard Turnbull met Mary and they were wed 1-6-1935 at Pratt. They have
     lived in Medicine Lodge most of the time since then.
