Harry Vandeveer

We, Harry and Alberta (Britschge) Vandeveer and two sons, Richard and
Jack moved from Ashland, Kansas to Medicine Lodge, in 1932.
We lived at the place that was then known as the Ficken's place, west
of Medicine Lodge. We raised cattle, wheat, alfalfa and grains the ten
     years we lived there.
In 1942, we bought the Steven's place east of Medicine Lodge, and lived
there until Richard graduated from MLHS. In 1949, we leased our place and
moved to the Oldfather Ranch southwest of Lake City. Richard helped with
the ranch work while Jack drove to high school in the boys' jaloppy, a
stripped down Model A Ford. Richard enlisted in the air force, before
Jack graduated, then the day that Jack graduated, he also enlisted in the
     air force.
We lived on this ranch for eleven years, then we moved back to our place

     retired in Medicine Lodge.
