Robert M. Watts

Robert M. Watts came to barber County in May of 1950 from Harper County.
Bob, son of the late Ebert and Esther Watts, was born and raised in Harper
County. Bob attended rural grade schools and high school in Attica, Kansas,
and one year of college at Manhattan. He went to work for Vestal Cook of
rural Hardtner. In August Bob married Mollie Harbaugh, daughter of U.B and
Mabel Harbaugh of Medicine lodge, formerly of Gerlane. Mollie attended
grade school at Gerlane, high school at Medicine Lodge, and Vsnus Academy
     of Beauty Culture at Wichita.
Bob and Mollie started their married life working for Robert and Lois
Cook of rural Hardtner. A month later Bob was called back into active duty
in the Marine Corps, where he had served 4 years. He served another year
overseas in Korea. In December 1951 he returned to help Robert Cook on the
ranch, where their family was raised. However, they lived at rural Sharon
for one and a half years in 1955-57, returning to the Cook ranch and soon
became partners in it. In 1969 they leased the Cook ranch when Robert Cook
     retired from ranching and farming.
Their children, Gary Tony, Mark, and Mary have been a big help in the
operation. Gary graduated from Hardtner High School, Pratt Juco, and Kansas
State College of Pittsburg with a degree of Bachelor in Technology and is
now working for Boeing in Wichita. Tony graduated from South Barber High
School, attended Kansas State University at Manhattan and Fort Hays Kansas
State College at Hays, and is now attending United Electronics Institute
at Dallas, TExas. Mark graduated from South Barber High School and is a
freshman at Garden City Community College at Garden City. Mary is a junior
     at South Barber High School.
Bob and Mollie have enjoyed being active in Hardtner and Kiowa communities.
They have a granddaughter, Faun, five years old.
