William R. Wehling
Bill Wehling lived and worked near Isabel, Kansas, for 46 years. He now
lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and owns and operates a Drywall
texturing business.
Bill, born to Arthur Esterhousing Wehling and Mildred Dotson on February
26, 1925, married Gertrude Bessie Oller, daughter of Gene and Bessie Oller
from Cunningham, Kansas, in Klein, Texas, on October 14, 1945. At this time
Bill was about to go overseas to Europe in World War II. Bill's folks took
Gertrude to Klein so the couple could buy their marriage license. Bill and
Gertrude bought their marriage license with a two dollar bill they had
saved for three years while in high school at Isabel. This 2 dollar bill
was then bought back by Bill's dad, and he carried it in his wallet until
their 25th wedding anniversary. He then gave it to Lynn Wehling, his grandson,
to buy his marriage license with.
Bill and Gertrude have four children; Laile is a Naval Electronics
instructor in Jacksonville, Florida; Lorraine Herbel lives in Brush, Colorado;
Lynn lives in Colorado Springs; and Jane Brooks lives in Longmont, Colorado.
Bill and Gertrude have six grandchildren: Jason, Sarah and Laura Herbel,
Richard and Robert Wehling, and Bryan Brooks.
Bill still farms his parents small farm outside of Isabel for his mother
who now lives in Colorado Springs.
