Willis Wenrich

Willis R. Wenrich was born November 2, 1912, Oxford, Sumner County, Kansas.
He graduated from Kansas State University in 1938 and was employed as Gray
County Agriculture Extension Agent. While living in Cimarron, Kansas, he
met Carmen A. Foushee. Carmen was born June 4th, 1916, in southern Wichita
County, Kansas. After teaching three terms of school in Wichita County,
Carmen attended Venus Academy of Beauty Culture in Wichita. Following
graduation, she owned and operated a barber and beauty shop in Cimarron.
Willis and Carmen were married at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Carl Foushee, in Cedar Point, Kansas, December 28, 1941.
In November of 1942, Willis entered military service, where he spent the
next 38 months. Returning from a tour of duty in Hawaii and discharged,
Willis was employed as Agriculture Extension Agent in Barber County, February
1946. Steven Ray Wenrich was born August 6, 1945, in Winfield, Kansas. The
family moved to 410 West Stolp and later to 606 North Main. Barber County
was to be their home for the next 15 years. While living on North Main,
Carl Brent Wenrich was born September 27, 1949, in Achenbach Hospital,
     Hardtner. Wonderful neighbors Bud, Lura, and Bruce Rickard; Curt Glenns;
     Pnkie and Jim Harper and their children Imogene, Mike, Julie, and Pammy;
Sam and Betty Rickard, Mary Jane and Grady; Sam Griffin - all helped us
to love Medicine Lodge. In May of 1950, we moved to a new home at 305
     North Adams.
May 1951, the Wenrichs moved to the Flying J. Ranch (previously the old
Shaw Ranch and now the Arlos Rusk Ranch), where Willis was Ranch Manager
for the next 9 1/2 years. The Deerhead School house became the center of
our activities. Steven and Brent attended school there with Kittie Schmidl
as teacher seven years and Edith Trantham one year. Deerhead Sunday School
and Church was held each week with Rev. Tucker, and Rev. Coffey helping
with the spiritual needs of the community. Deerhead 4-H Club held their
meetings at the school house. Carmen was community leader and Willis,
livestock leader for several years. Steve and Brent participated in various
projects, especially livestock and judging. The days spent at Hardtner at the
County Fair made lasting memories for all of us. Other community activities -
Deerhead Club, picnics, cattle tours, bar-b-ques, and so many good friends
and neighbors made our years on the Flying J the most memorable period of
     our lives.
When Steve began his freshman year in High School, Brent 5th grade, the
family moved to 204 South Spring in Medicine Lodge for the boys to attend
     school.
In August of 1961, the Wenrichs bid farewell to Barber County and returned
to Cimarron, Kansas, where Wilis had been employed the previous November
as Manager of Warner Ranches. Steve married Sydnie Roberts. They have a son,
Brady. They lived near Sasabe, Arizona, where Steve is with the Pruett-Wray
Cattle Company. Brent and his son, Justin, reside in Ottawa, Kansas, where
Brent is employed with the Penney Cement Company. Carmen is employed with
KTVC, Ensign, and Willis is completing his 19th year as Ranch Manager.
