Dale Werner
Edith McDaniel Werner was born to Elmer and Ruth (Harris) McDaniel on
September 18, 1924, in their home south of Pixley, on the farm now owned
by Walter Lenkner.
Her father, Elmer McDaniel, came to Barber County by train from Akinsville,
Missouri, with his parents, Robert Lee and Orpha (Paxon) McDaniel, in 1909.
They first lived in the Central View Community south of the Central View
Church and School, then later on the Jim Dobbs' farm west of Pixley near
North Star School, and then later on the farm north of Sharon now owned by
Herbie Landwehr, Jr. His brothers and sisters were Myrtle Rucker, Ola Wilson,
Ely, May Donley, Wilbur, John, Oma McKeever, Elva Cole, and Gilbert.
Elmer was married to Ruth Harris on July 11, 1923, and later to Grace
McGuire in 1946. Ruth's parents wre Greenville and Sarah Weider Harris, who
lived south of Pixley on the farm where Charles Inslee now lives. The
grandparents were Hillory and Sarah Antill Weidner and Alexander and Eliza
Luttrill Harris. Brothers and sisters were Lee, Lora, Roy, Edith Wilson Barger,
Fred, Rachel, Florence McCracken, Grace Carroll, George and Wallace.
Edith has one younger brother, Dale McDaniel. She attended both grade and
high school in Sharon, graduating with the class of 1942. On October 4, 1944,
she was married to Dale Werner, son of Claude W. and Agnes Cotton Werner.
Dale was born September 13, 1923, in the same house where he still lives,
and has one brother, Glann, and two sisters, Claudine Skaggs and LaVon Stone.
He attended his first year of school at Enon country school, and then the
remaining grade and high school days at Sharon, graduating with the class
of 1942.
Dale and Edith have three children, one daughter and two sons, who all
attended and graduated from Sharon High sChool. Dalene received her B.S.
Degree from KSU and is a Home Economics teacher. She is married to Robert
L. (Bob) Dohm, son of Louis and Rosa Ditgen Dohm. They have one son, Stanley
Robert, and now live in Medicine Lodge where Bob is boy's high school basket-
ball coach.
Wayne attended Fort Hays State two years and is married to Maxine Hrencher,
daughter of Francis and Virginina Meng Hrencher. They live in Sharon and
have two daughters, Jennifer Lynn and Kristi Dawn. A son, Bradley Wayne,
was born September 1, 1979.
Daryl, the youngest son lives in his home in Sharon.
Since their marriage, Dale and Edith have lived on the Werner home place
two and one-half miles southeast of Sharon, where they farm and have a Grade
A dairy and beef operation with their two sons. They were the third couple
from Barber County to receive the Kansas Master Farmer and Master Farm
Homemaker Award, receiving this recognition with the class of 1975. They
are members of the Sharon First Baptist Church, where Dale serves as church
treasurer, trustee, and sings in the choir. Edith his church pianist and
treasurer of the women's organization. Dale served 15 years as a school
board member and is currently on the Alfalfa Electric Cooperative board
and is a director on the State KEC board. He is on the Resolutions Committee
of Associated Milk Producers, Inc. Edith is active in Sharon Valley EHU,
Study and Social County Extension Council's Executive Board and is serving
this year as Chairman of Kansas Statewide Electric Cooperatives' Women's
Executive Committee, and Committeewoman of District 6.
They are proud to call Barber County Home, and hope to be privileged to
live here many more years.
