Herman Edward Wetz, Jr.

  
       Herman Edward Wetz, Jr., almost a lifelong resident of Barber County,
     attended Hawkins rural grade school and Kiowa High School before going
     to Wichita State University. After graduation from Wichita State, he
     attended Wichita Hospital School of Medical Technology, becoming a
     registered Medical Technologist in 1945. He worked at St. Joseph
     Hospital, Wichita, immediately after graduation.
       Edward and Pauline lUmpkin, a student of Wesley Hospital School of
     Nursing, were married, May 4, 1946. They lived in Tulsa for three years,
     then moved to Kiowa, to farm in partnership with his father. Pauline
     continued her nursing at Kiowa District Hospital. In 1958 Edward became
     Medical Technologist at Achenbach Memorial Hospital, Hardtner. Edward
     joined Pauline at Kiowa District Hospital in 1961, as Medical Technologist
     at that institution.
       Edward is a Mason and Past Master of the Lodge, and Pauline is a member
     of Eastern Star. They moved from the farm to Kiowa in 1965, as his father
     was selling the farm and retiring. Edward has been a member of the city
     council and mayor of Kiowa.
       They had four children, Mark Steven, a graduate of Fort Hays State
     University, is employed by the Social and Rehabilitation Service. He
     and his wife Celine, daughter, Jennifer, and son, Erik, live in Kansas
     City.
       Luann Kay, a graduate of Kansas State University, lives in Manhattan,
     where her husband, Richard Baker, is news director of KAKC on Kansas State
     University campus. They have two sons, Kristopher and Danny.
       Gregory Allen and his wife, Melanie, live in Garden City. Greg is also
     a Fort Hays State University graduate and has followed his older brother
     in Social and Rehabilitation work. Their two children are Jewel and Jason.
       The youngest child, Lora Patrice, is a senior in South Barber High and
     is planning to attend college the fall of 1979.
