Dale H. Wilhite

  
       Dale H. "Speed" Wilhite, second son of Herman and Hazel Wilhite was
     born November 11, 1924, in Hardtner. He has lived all his life in
     Hardtner except for the time spent in the military service.
       Dale enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942 and was discharged
     in 1945. Of this time 18 months were spent in the South Pacific. After
     his discharge he enlisted in the Marine Reserves and was recalled for
     active duty during the Korean Conflict in 1951. He served one year as
     an instructor at Camp Pendleton and Pickle Meadows in California.
       On May 23, 1948, he married Norma Evans at Alva, Oklahoma. They have
     one daughter, Winnone Wilhite Thompson, who with her husband, Joe, and
     son, Christopher, born in 1973, and daughter, Erin, born in 1975, live
     in Wichita, Kansas.
       Dale was employed as a mechanic in the A.W. Mohr garage until his
     recall into the service and on his return worked on the W.J. Sterling
     farm.
       In 1953, he purchased the retail liquor store in Hardtner. He and
     his wife operated it until 1974. Dale also spent a number of years 
     working for Kyle Clark as an oil well pumper. He is presently employed
     on the Bob Sterling ranch.
