Mary Jane Rickard Winters

My parents are Sam and Betty Rickard. Since there was no hospital in
Medicine Lodge, I was born at the Hardtner Hospital, March 6, 1943. I spent
my early childhood in Medicine Lodge and attended grade school, junior high,
and high school there, graduating in 1961. My first two years of college were
at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. In 1963 I was accepted in the
dental hygiene program at the University of Missouri at Kansas City School
of Denistry. I graduated in 1965 and still find dental hygiene rewarding and
  enjoyable work.
In 1968 I married Jim Winters in the Methodist Church in Medicine Lodge,
where I had been an active member as I grew up. Jim has been active in campus
and other phases of food service management and is currently associated with
  an internation food service organization.
When we were married, Jim had four daughters with whom we have kept in
close tough and enjoyed their time spent with us as holidays and summer
vacations permitted. They have visited many times in Medicine Lodge, and we
all enjoyed the horseback trail rides with my dad as "trail boss."
The oldest daughter, Lanette, was valedictorian of Hutchinson High School,
set records in the mile, cross country and 880, and is currently a junior at
Kansas State University, majoring in electrical engineering.
Denise is an outstanding pitcher in slowpitch, her team twice winning entry
in the national tournament at Miami, Florida. She was married in 1978 and lives
  in Hutchinson.
Darla is a nursing student at Middle Tennessee State University. Shelly is
a sophomore at Hutchinson High School and enjoys volleyball and basketball.
Our daughter, Jamie Elizabeth, was born at Emporia, Kansas, September 16,
1971. She is in second grade and enjoys Brownie Scouts and dance lessons.
In 1973 we moved to Terre Haute, Indiana. We have lived in Nashville, Tenn,
  for the past three years.
My Kansas heritage will always be special and I look forward to returning
for visits withy family and friends in the friendly community that I still call
"home". The Winters family moved to Overland Park, Kansas in August, 1979.
